He's Yours

I still remember the night our first child arrived. The room was quiet, the kind of quiet that feels almost holy. He was fast asleep in the hospital cot beside me, wrapped up like a tiny parcel of promise. And there I was — staring at him, overwhelmed by a wave of responsibility I had never felt before. I had read all the books, memorised the developmental charts, and could tell you what size his heart was at 12 weeks in the womb… But none of that prepared me for the moment I realised, He's mine. I have to look after him.

In that moment, the weight felt too heavy for my own two hands. And yet, right there on that hospital bed, I remembered the prayer my husband and I had whispered just hours earlier — the prayer in which we thanked God for this child and gave him back to God as His own. We recognised that we were simply custodians of a gift that belonged to Him.

Looking back now, I realise that prayer was the beginning of everything. Because from that day on, God made sure we were never parenting alone.
