Inviting the Holy Spirit Into the Morning Chaos
Before the backpacks, the breakfast rush, and the missing shoes, there is a quiet moment to whisper: 'Holy Spirit, be with us today.'
The morning alarm goes off, and before my feet hit the floor, the mental to-do list begins. Lunches. Permission slips. That email I forgot to send. Someone is already calling from the other room. And yet, in the middle of it all, there is an invitation.
One of the simplest shifts I made as a parent was to stop trying to manufacture patience and peace out of my own willpower and instead ask the Holy Spirit to fill the room before I filled it with my stress.
Now, before the kitchen gets loud, I take ten seconds to whisper, "Holy Spirit, be with us today. Give me eyes to see my children the way You see them." It does not make the chaos disappear. But it changes whose presence I am inviting into it.
A small practice
Tomorrow morning, before you speak to anyone, pause at your bedroom door. Breathe in. Ask the Holy Spirit to go ahead of you into every room you will enter. Notice what shifts.
