The Power of a Parent's Blessing

There is a difference between wishing our children well and blessing them. A wish is a hope. A blessing is a declaration. It says, "I see who God is making you to be, and I agree with it."

When my children were small, I would place my hand on their heads before bed and speak simple words: "You are loved. You are chosen. You are not alone." I did not have a formula. I had faith that the Spirit would carry what my words could not.

Now, even on the hard days, I try to speak blessing instead of criticism. It does not mean I ignore behavior or refuse discipline. It means I anchor my words in identity before I address action. The Spirit uses those words to build a home where children know they are safe, seen, and significant.
